A Past Due Apology

I remember one Christmas past when I was younger, and how my mom worked very hard to save up for a very special gift for me. I was a teenager and was hoping for a waterbed, but Mom had something else in mind. She bought me a white iron and brass daybed with a trundle bed underneath. My reaction was not so nice, however, as I thought for sure I was getting a waterbed. I broke my mom's heart by my reaction. She was a single parent and it took all she had to buy Christmas presents in the first place. Now that I am a parent, I understand how terrible it made her feel when she thought she was getting me a special gift and she had saved up her tip money from hairdressing probably an entire year, just so I could act like a spoiled brat. I know that memory still plays vividly in my mom's mind as each Christmas comes around, so finally I want to tell her that I am very sorry for breaking her heart that year, and I did love my bed after I got it. I thought it was beautiful, but as a teenager you don't like to admit when you're wrong and that you like something that you first didn't think you wanted. So, Merry Christmas, Mom, and I hope you get everything you want this year!
