Trust in Him

Learning to trust again is a powerful thing. Some people are very trusting most of the time, and some of us aren't. Our son, Konnor, has had a long road that he has traveled in order to trust again. As a tiny little one he was often neglected by his birth parents who were addicted to drugs and alcohol. He was finally abandoned by his mother who dropped him off at his grandmother's never to see him again, except for one last 45 minute supervised visit that social services allowed her to have with him before our court date. Konnor remembers the domestic violence that happened between his birth parents. He remembers being left home alone all day at the very young age of about 4 or 5 years old. His grandmother decided to give Konnor up to social services, but keep his older sister. Then, God brought Konnor to our home. First, we were his foster parents, and although we definitely wanted to adopt, Konnor's birth parents' rights were still not terminated, so there was some uncertainty about whether or not Konnor would stay with us or go back to them. All of us, including Konnor, knew there was a chance we would not stay together. This made it very difficult for all of us to bond, because we were all too afraid of losing each other. The trust was not there. Konnor started acting out in school and week after week we had lost a little more trust in him that he could behave in school. Konnor lost trust in his teachers, especially by the 3rd grade when he had an inexperienced teacher that had absolutely NO compassion for Konnor's situation, and accused him of stealing, abusing himself with a ruler in class, and many other things. Konnor lost all trust in teachers, and therefore became even more rebellious against them. So, if you have read some of my past blogs about being nervous about a new school year, new teachers, etc. maybe some of this is making sense to you now. Anyway, I know now that the only way any of us will gain trust back in each other and the school system, is to pray about it and put all of our trust in God. It has been a long road, but if it is God's will for Konnor to succeed in school and for us to have trust in him again, then it will be done.

He sure has been through so much for as young as he is. It breaks my heart when I hear about parents like that! But as you well know God had a plan for both you guys and Konnor. I will pray that his school year goes better than ever, but if it doesn't you still need to "trust in Him". Love ya!

He is a very lucky boy! I'm sure his school year will be great! Just pray! I will keep you and your little "guy" in my prayers!
