Lost Dog

Konnor did an honorable thing today and I am very proud of him. I let Konnor have my old cell phone a few weeks ago when I bought a new camera phone. Anyway, I usually only let Konnor take his cell phone out of the house when he is out riding his bike or at the park with his friends. Today it served its purpose. Konnor found a lost greyhound dog whose feet were bleeding from getting stickers in his paws and he was shivering because it is so cold outside. (It is also supposed to get down to 18 degrees tonight.) Konnor used his cell phone to call the number on the dog's tag which ended up being a rescue center for greyhounds. They asked him to read the numbers stamped in the dog's ear and he did. They tracked the number on the computer and gave Konnor the number to call the shelter the dog belonged to. Konnor called them and they came to the park to pick up their dog. It was a happy ending, and I am very proud of my son for caring enough about a lost dog to help him. On the other hand, I know one of the ways child predators prey on children is to sometimes ask them to help find their lost dogs. Konnor is also aware of this scheme, and the fact that he was in a public place with several other children at the time reassures me that he made a good choice. Sometimes kids do make good decisions.
